Air Insulated Busway

Air Insulated Busway

An air insulated busway is a low-voltage busbar trunking that uses air as the primary insulation medium, with copper or aluminum busbars fixed and isolated by high-performance insulation brackets (polycarbonate, DMC) within a metal enclosure—maintaining sufficient air gaps and creepage distances between conductors and the shell.

An air insulated busway is a low-voltage busbar trunking that uses air as the primary insulation medium, with copper or aluminum busbars fixed and isolated by high-performance insulation brackets (polycarbonate, DMC) within a metal enclosure-maintaining sufficient air gaps and creepage distances between conductors and the shell. As one of the longest-standing, most technologically mature, and cost-competitive members of the busbar family, it is renowned for simple structure, excellent heat dissipation, intuitive installation and maintenance, and comprehensive specifications. The metal enclosure (galvanized steel or aluminum alloy) provides mechanical protection and partial electromagnetic shielding; internal insulation brackets secure phase conductors at fixed intervals; and ample internal space facilitates natural air convection. This design enables direct heat dissipation from conductors via radiation and convection, ensuring excellent long-term current-carrying capacity and stable temperature rise. Ventilated enclosure designs further enhance heat dissipation, typically at IP40–IP54 rating.

We customize both the conductor and the enclosure to the buyer's load and room conditions-copper versus aluminum cross-section, galvanized steel versus aluminum alloy shell, and bracket spacing that sets the internal air gap-because heat dissipation in an air-insulated system is a function of those three variables working together. This structural customization lets us tune current-carrying capacity and enclosure width to fit a given shaft or tray, rather than forcing a fixed catalog box into a space that was never designed for it.

Applications

  • Conventional industrial workshops for dry, clean mechanical processing and assembly lines, where direct conductor-to-air convection holds temperature rise stable at lower enclosure cost than dense-insulated trunking.
  • Cost-constrained medium-sized commercial and office floor distribution, where the lightweight galvanized steel shell and simple bracket structure reduce support and installation labor without sacrificing performance in clean indoor air.
  • Retrofit projects in existing dry indoor environments and residential risers, where standardized air-gap sections drop into old shafts with familiar installation practice and easy access for maintenance.

Customization

We customize conductor material and cross-section (copper/aluminum), enclosure material (galvanized steel/aluminum alloy) and dimensions, internal bracket spacing and air gap, ventilated or sealed enclosure configuration, and IP rating. Logo, nameplate, and packaging can be arranged per buyer requirements.

Packaging & Transportation

Sections are packed in fumigation-free plywood crates, reinforced for international transport. Trade terms supported: FOB, EXW, DDP. Payment by T/T only (RMB or USD).

FAQ

Q: Can you change the conductor material and enclosure size for my project?

A: Yes. We customize copper or aluminum conductor cross-section, galvanized steel or aluminum alloy enclosure, and internal bracket spacing to match your load and available space.

Q: What IP rating can you achieve on an air-insulated section?

A: Typical ratings are IP40 to IP54; ventilated enclosures favor heat dissipation, while sealed variants raise dust and water protection.

Q:Is air insulated busway suitable for outdoor or wet installation?

A: It is designed for dry indoor environments. For outdoor or wet locations we recommend a sealed, dense-insulated alternative.
